There are several ways to join a meeting in Teams. You can access the session through a link that can be opened in the browser or in the Teams desktop app.
Via email or Brightspace, you have received an invitation/link to participate.
- Click on the link in Brightspace or the invitation you received.
You can use Teams in the desktop app (Client) or browser. It is recommended to use the desktop app. If that is not possible, like in a lecture hall, then the browser Microsoft Edge is recommended. (Other browsers may present limitations in functionality.)
- Click Open Microsoft Teams if you want to open the Teams meeting in the desktop app.
- Click Cancel if you want top open the Teams meeting in the browser and then click Continue on this browser (4).
If you have chosen to participate via the desktop app, you will see the following screen.
Before joining the meeting, you can change the following settings:
- Virtual background:
- Click Effects and avatars. Then click on the desired background.
Within the current license, it is not possible to use avatars.
The next time that you use Teams Meetings, the last chosen background will be displayed.
- Change device settings:
- Click on the symbol next to PC microphone and speakers. Adjust the various devices as desired:
- Click Join when you have everything set up correctly..
You will then enter the lobby. The lecturer decides when you will be admitted to the meeting.
If you have chosen to participate via the browser, you will see the following screen.
Before you participate in the meeting, you can change the following settings:
- Virtual background:
- Click on Background Settings.
Choose a background.
The next time that you use Teams Meetings, the last chosen background will be displayed.
- Changing device settings:
- Click on the symbol next to Audio. Adjust the settings of the different devices, as you like:
- Click Join when you everything is set up correctly.
You will now enter the lobby. The lecturer decides when you will be admitted to the meeting.
Functionalities during a meeting
- Chat with participants;
- Raise hand (more information);
- React (more information);
- View (more information);
- Click on the three dots to see option 6 to 10;
- Start recording and transcribing;
- Language and speech: live captions (more information);
- Turn your camera on/off;
- Turn your microphone on/off;
- Depending on the meeting settings, you can share your screen as a participant.
